pacific spirit
generative art and physical vinyl jacket collection by Emily Nicoll/ENICOLL & 747 on Aquaregia.
Emily Nicoll and 747 are pleased to present their first foray into code-based art in this limited series of visual works that extends the sonic world of Pacific Spirit into a hyper collectible form through the integration of 1/1/x digital artworks and physical vinyl records.
This generative artwork series, releasing on Art Blocks, was created as the cover art for Pacific Spirit, the new album by 747. The forthcoming record, set to release on the Aquaregia label, is a playful, acid-inflected dive into jungle breaks, and dreamy atmospheres. Known for his signature acid techno sound (as heard on Aurora Centralis), 747 expands into more fluid territory here, while retaining his unmistakable melodic edge. The artwork mirrors that energy: free-flowing, textural, and built for variation.
Each visual in the series is algorithmically generated and doubles as the unique vinyl jacket for a collector’s copy of the album. Scribbled lines mimic waveform motion, nodding to the audio roots of the work, while hand-drawn details and grainy overlays reference the tactile visual aesthetic of Aquaregia, the label behind the release.
Letters are scattered throughout the works—a subtle reference to the textual nature of traditional album artwork, where typography often plays a central role in framing a record’s identity.
The colour palettes are directly inspired by locations in British Columbia that shaped the emotional and sonic tone of the record. Each is named after one of the three singles being released in anticipation of the album and the titular track: Pacific Spirit, the default palette, reflects the calm, spacious mood of Vancouver’s west side and downtown, where 747 grew up. Camosun Bog brings a deep, earthy feel reminiscent of moss, wetlands, and forest undergrowth. Sea to Sky draws from coastal air and mountain vistas, capturing the hues of the iconic highway stretching toward Whistler. Second Narrows adds a more industrial energy, with muted tones evoking bridges, infrastructure, and quiet tension.
A playful trait called “acid” adds smiley faces to only 3.03% of artworks, a nod to the iconic 303 synth and 747’s acid lineage.
The most common layout mode is “wave”—a compositional structure that echoes both the ocean and mountain landscapes of the Pacific Northwest. Other layouts include scatter, radial, grid, and concentric, giving each piece a distinct rhythm while maintaining a cohesive visual language. This high variation is intentional, designed to support collectibility while staying true to the project’s recognisable aesthetic core.
Each minted artwork comes with a physical vinyl copy of Pacific Spirit, shipped to the collector with their collected piece printed as the cover. It’s a fusion of code, sound, and physical media — expressed through the playful logic of generative art.
Sample Outputs
Traits & Features
Each artwork in the Pacific Spirit collection is a unique output, created using a custom algorithm built in p5.js. The system was designed to produce high visual variation while maintaining a cohesive aesthetic that reflects the mood and themes of 747’s Pacific Spirit album. Below is a breakdown of the key traits and features embedded in the generative logic:
Palette
There are four primary colour palettes in the series, each named after a single released in anticipation of the album and after the titular track. The palette selection influences both the background and the stroke colours used throughout the artwork.
Pacific Spirit – A balanced palette of tones inspired by the coastline and skyline of Vancouver. This is the most common palette (~50% occurence).
Camosun Bog – Earthy greens, browns, and soft neutrals drawn from the wetland area of the same name.
Sea to Sky – Cool blues and pastel hues evoking the mountainous ocean drive from Vancouver to Whistler.
Second Narrows – Muted, industrial tones inspired by the bridges and infrastructure along Burrard Inlet.

Layout
The artwork’s structure is determined by a layout system that arranges strokes and text across the canvas. Layouts influence the rhythm, density, and overall feeling of the piece.
Wave – The most common layout (~40%), mimicking waveform motion and referencing the natural geography of the Pacific Northwest.
Scatter – Elements are loosely distributed across the canvas in a freeform pattern.
Radial – Circular formations radiating from a central point. The movement in the composition of this type references spinning records on a turntable.
Grid – Evenly spaced rows and columns of strokes and letters, mimicing the linear aesthetic of audio channels in a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation).
Concentric – Layered rings of visual elements built outward from the centre; inspired by vinyl grooves.

Stroke Elements
Each artwork is composed of numerous scribbled stroke forms, inspired by audio waveforms. Their count, density, rotation, and curvature are randomized within a range of rules tied to the selected layout. Some outputs include "micro" detail mode with smaller, denser strokes.
Lettering
Each artwork includes letterforms drawn from the phrase PACIFIC SPIRIT or, in some cases (10%), 747. The letters are scribbled in a hand-drawn style, reminiscent of the Aquaregia logo (displayed below, far right) and typeset, using a randomized font from a set of system fonts. Occasionally, an oversized letter is featured prominently as a semi-transparent focal element (~5% chance).
Acid Trait : )
A rare trait titled ‘acid’ appears in 3.03% of artworks. It overlays hand-drawn smiley faces—an homage to the Roland TB-303 synthesizer and the visual iconography of acid music. Each ‘acid’ piece includes somewhere between 1 and 20 smiley faces, drawn with layered strokes and randomly scattered on the canvas.
Colour Mode Overrides
Some artworks override the base palette selection through special modes:
Monochrome – A tonal gradient based on a single colour from the selected palette (~15% chance).
Black & White – A full greyscale conversion with randomized background tones (~5% chance).
Restricted Palette Mode
Roughly 30% of artworks reduce their palette to just three colours, selected randomly from the full set. This limitation creates visual contrast and a more minimal look.
Key Strokes
P or p - downloads a high resolution (5000x5000 px) image of the artwork.
J or j - overlays the vinyl jacket.
Noise Overlay
Each piece includes a subtle Gaussian noise overlay applied to the entire canvas. This grain effect mimics natural texture and reinforces the analog feeling central to the label’s aesthetic. Selected album covers from Aquaregia’s discography below.
Availability
The works will be made available as tokenized digital assets on Art Blocks. Minters will be eligible to receive a copy of the 2x12” vinyl record with their minted cover by mail.
Owners of Pacific Spirit tokens can claim their vinyl record here. Any unsold works up to 300 will be minted to an Aquaregia controlled wallet, and the artworks from each of those minted works will be printed and distributed to record shops globally through Triple Vision Record Distribution, along with the rest of the Aquaregia catalogue.
The records will feature a frame-style jacket with a unique slide-in print which can be removed to be framed if desired.
